How we got this answer
Your cohort median is modeled from age-bracket FICO medians, adjusted by an income-tier modifier and a US Census division offset. Your percentile is estimated from a normal distribution around that median (σ ≈ 58 pts). The Top Decile target is the true 90th-percentile score of that same distribution — exactly 1.28σ above the median — so the label and your percentile readout always agree (no scaling fudge). The gauge plots your score on the canonical FICO scale (Poor 300–579 · Fair 580–669 · Good 670–739 · Very Good 740–799 · Exceptional 800–850).
Note on score models: the age and income baselines are in FICO points, while the regional offset is derived from Experian's VantageScore-by-state data (rolled to division) and applied only as a small directional proxy — FICO and VantageScore are different scoring models and are not interchangeable. Published FICO medians by Census division are not available, so we do not invent them.
